Kathryn Treadwell- Director
(Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre)
Kathryn began her dance training in Edmonton. Her outstanding reputation, dedication and high standards is well regarded. She is sought after and considered a first class teacher for workshops and judging competitions across Canada and the United States. Kathryn has a huge passion for creating outside the box and coming up with concepts for choreography that remain true to her heart. Her choreography and students have been the recipients of many awards and scholarships. She has traveled, studied and worked in many different cities throughout the world, the furthest away being Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa.
Kathryn’s work extends beyond the walls of the dance studio. She has coordinated many performance/study related dance trips. Her dancers have sailed the Caribbean, studied in L.A, Las Vegas and Disneyland. Her new performance company Fused will take flight in the fall of 2013.
Kathryn's students become sought after as teachers and choreographers or have gone on to start their own dance studios. Still others have gone on to perform professionally in Dance Companies, Cirque de Soliel, Broadway and Cruise Ships.
Kathryn’s goal as a teacher is to pass on her knowledge and instill in all her students a love of dance.
Brittany Black- Director
(Tap, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre)
Born and raised in Edmonton, Brittany began dancing here in Edmonton! She is a versatile dancer who trained in Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Musical Theatre and was also taught professionally for her voice.
Now back in Edmonton, Brittany is teaching full time. Her innovative choreography has been seen in many local performances and events including a production of the Musical “Hairspray.” In addition to teaching, Brittany performs as an independent artist and works as a freelance guest teacher, adjudicator, choreographer, and is also a production manager and editor for Lindisfarne Productions. She has continued to take classes at Edge PAC, Harbour Dance Centre with some incredible choreographers in the industry.
Brittany believes sharing the love, art and freedom of movement in dance
with students and colleagues is extremely important. She finds great joy in continuing
to watch her students’ progress each year and share their achievements: in
classes, exams and especially… on stage!
Josephine Cavaco- Ballet
Josephine, who hails from Montreal, developed a passion for dance very early. At the age of 3, she began her training at Le Centre d'Art de Natasha under ballet Mistress Marie Cote, a retired National Ballet company member.
Her training in ballet and modern lead her to join the professional program at L'ecole Superiuere de la Dance du Quebec. She continued her training in ballet, modern and character dance for the next 6 years under Susanne Toumine and Wendy Wright. Josephine's devotion and love of dance led her to join Les Grande Ballet Canadiens at the early age of 16. She has performed various roles in ballets such as the Nutcracker, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, Coppelia and Swan Lake. Josephine is a performer, teacher and choreographer who holds her Associates in the Cecchetti Ballet teaching method.
Katie Began her dance training at the age of five with Volya, a Ukrainian dance school and Company located in Edmonton. She became interested in other forms of dance and was soon also training in Ballet(RAD and Cecchetti, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and Hip Hop. Katie trained at Dance Alberta, Powerhouse Dance and Emerge Dance Academy.
She traveled to Las Vegas to attend workshops and compete in West Coast Dance Explosion. She also performed with Fused in Disneyland. Katie has also had the opportunity to travel and perform with Voyla in Columbia and Croatia.
Katie found a passion for teaching and choreography at Victoria School of the Arts where she was a student in the International Baccalaureate Composition program.
Emerge is excited to have Katie as part of the team at Emerge Dance Academy.
Erica “E-Rok” Torok's quirky and fun-loving teaching style is reflected in her elaborate themes, and original style of choreography. Erica’s style is a fusion of funk, old-school party dances, animation, waacking and her own creative approach to dancing!
Erica has had the opportunity to learn from hip hop originators such as Boogaloo Sam, Poppin Pete, Suga Pop, and many many more. She has also competed and performed through out North America winning several scholarships and recognition awards. Erica has performed at many local charity and corporate events; performances include the St. Albert’s Children Festival, K-Days, Corporate Hip Hop Challenge, and has choreographed for the Edmonton Eskimo Cheer team. In 2011, Erica toured the coast of China and performed in the first all hip hop production “Hip Hop Saved my Life” with 3SB Productions. In 2013 Erica competed with 3SB Crew in Montreal, and placed 2nd in Canada in the Adult Crew division. Later on that year the crew placed 11th in the world at Las Vegas’s "Hip Hop International”.
Erica's goal in and out of the studio is to inspire creativity, individualism, and teamwork through the fundamentals of hip hop: peace, unity, love, and having fun.
Leyla Yasa- Inter Rec Hip Hop
Leyla is a senior at Emerge and a well-rounded energetic dancer and teacher. Leyla began dancing at the age of 6 and has trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, tap and contemporary. She has traveled to LA- to take classes at the Edge, Disneyland -to perform and to Las Vegas- to attend workshops at West Coast Dance Explosion. Leyla has trained and assisted at Dance Alberta and Emerge Dance Academy. She is also a part of Emerge's company team, Fused.
Dance is Leyla's biggest passion and she loves sharing the beauty and meaning behind all dance forms.
